I am originally from Salem, Oregon. In 2008 I graduated from South Salem High School. Upon graduation I attended Portland State University as a Music Education Major. In Fall of 2011 I transferred to Oregon State University to continue my schooling in music. Since then I have been a member of the OSU Marching Band, Campus Band, Flute Choir, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Winds, Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble. In 2013 I graduated with my B.A. in Music Education. In 2014 I attended graduate school and worked toward my Master’s Degree in Music Education through the Master of Arts in Teaching program at OSU. In Spring of 2015, I graduated OSU with my Master's in Music Education. I am a member of NAfME (National Association for Music Education), and OMEA (Oregon Music Educators Association).
My philosophy of music education is that through an education in music all students will learn about different cultures and broaden their perceptions of society and the world in which they live. In music, all students will discover their own identity, purpose, and develop unique ways of expression and communication. Finally, through an education in music, all students will experience multiple opportunities to prosper, developing lifelong knowledge and skills that they continue to use outside of school.
To put my philosophy into practice students will explore and solve problems through intuition and create their own ideas and identity based on values, ideas and experiences. I will have students explore various cultures through performances, unit studies, or researching composers, and reflect upon not only their culture and the role within it, but other cultures as well. Through various experiences students will gain organizational, leadership, competency, and social skills that will prepare them be lifelong learners.
